BEDFORDSHIRE YOUTH OFFENDING SERVICE IS RATED NO.1 IN THE COUNTRY

Bedfordshire Youth Offending Service (BYOS) is now rated the No.1 Youth Offending Service in the country by the Youth Justice Board, having improved its performance dramatically in the past 3 years through a range of innovativative practices and effective partnerships.

BYOS has reduced the number of young people entering the Criminal Justice System by 28.1% in 2007/8 - which equates to 450, compared to 650 in 2006/7. This significant reduction in youth offenders has saved the Council Taxpayer nearly £1 million.

BYOS has worked hard at preventing young people from getting into trouble with a series of initiatives, eg by engaging effectively with parents through its Parenting Service, working closely with the Police and residential staff in children's homes. Callouts by Bedfordshire Police to children.s homes have been reduced by over 50%.

STOP PRESS

Beds Times & Citizen have put a good article on my election as Bedford Borough Youth Champion on its website BedfordToday. I will to continue to be an enthusiastic advocate for Bedford's young people and to publicise good youth stories like the one above.
