DAY 6 The British Paralympic Team have increased their medal tally to 69, including 33 gold medals and are in 2nd place ahead of the USA. There are still 5 days to go and already they have won nearly double the number of gold medals achieved by Team GB in the Beijing Olympics in August.

In Boccia Nigel Murray improved on his silver medal in the Mixed Individual winning a gold medal in the Mixed Team BC1-2 with 3 team mates Zoe Robinson, David Smith and Dan Bentley. They are pictured above at the medal ceremony.

What a pity that the British Press and TV News programmes are so obsessed with football that these brave Paralympians hardly merit any mention. This is why I choose to write my posts on the Olympics, and also because my readers enjoy them

Congratulations to Team GB for an amazing performance.

BRITAIN LEADS THE WORLD IN BEIJING PARALYMPICS

FANTASTIC NEWS!

British cyclists have done it again and won 9 gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. China has been toppled from its top spot in the Medal Table and Britain is in 1st place with 26 Medals including 12 gold and it is only Day 4!

Four British cyclists have won 2 gold medals - Aileen McGlynn and Eileen Hunter in the Women's Individual Pursuit and Women's 1km Time Trial, Darren Kenny in the Men's Individual Pursuit (CP3) and 1km Time Trial and Simon Richardson in the Men's Individual Pursuit (LC3) and 1km. Time Trial.

Look carefully at the photos above of one legged Jody Cundy who broke the World Record and won the Gold Medal in the Men's Cycling Track 1km Time Trial(LC2) in 1 minute 5 seconds, and of wheelchair bound Nigel Murray who won Silver Medal in the obscure sport of Boccia, a form of bowls.

The swimmers have also excelled with 10 medals, including 4 golds as reported by me yesterday, but the British Press have largely ignored these sporting successes. Can it be because they are not able bodied like the rest of us? If so this is the worst form of discrimination. I am just as proud of these young people as I was last month when Team GB won medal after medal and livened up a wet and gloomy August.

Let's celebrate British Paralympic successes not our tennis and football failures and encourage all our Paralympians to continue winning gold medals.

STOP PRESS

China has just regained 1st place but Britain is second, ahead of the USA, and has won another 4 gold medals, making a total of 16 gold and 33 medals in all in 4 days.

Sascha Kindred won a 2nd Gold Medal in Swimming in the Men's Individual Medley - SM6 The Swimmers have won 4 gold medals and the cyclists an amazing 9 gold so far.

The British Equestrians won 3 gold medals in one day. Anne Dunham, at 59 the oldest female Paralympic equestrian, won 2 Gold Medals - the Individual Championship Test Grade 1A and the Team Event with 3 others. Her team mate Lee Pearson won a 2nd Gold Medal in the Individual Championship - 1b and a 3rd team mate Sophie Christiansen aged 20, also won a silver medal in the Individual Championship - 1a.

Congratulations to all the British Paralympian Team for their successes so far.

BRITAIN WINS 4 MORE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALS ON SUPER SUNDAY

Another sensational day for Team GB who won 8 more medals including 4 gold, in Sailing, Cycling, Rowing and Gymnastics. Britain have moved up to 3rd place after China and the USA with 25 medals, including 11 gold.

Defending Olympic Sailing Champion Ben Ainslie won his 3rd consecutive Olympic Gold Medal in the Finn (Heavyweight Dinghy) Ben is now the most successful British sailor in Olympic History and and has been called Britain's greatest sailor since Sir Francis Drake. Our 2nd Sailing Gold Medal was won in the Yngling race by the attractive "Three blondes in a boat" - Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson.

Our superb British cyclists continue to collect medals. In the Women's Individual Pursuit Rebecca Romero and Wendy Hoovenaghel won both Gold and Silver Medals. Rebecca is the 1st British female athlete to win medals in 2 Olympic Games, having won a silver medal at Athens for rowing. The cyclists have now amassed 10 medals including 5 gold medals, and won 7 medals in the past two days alone.

The Rowers won 1 gold and 2 silver medals. Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter won the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls and silver medals were won by the Men's Eight and Women's Quadruple Sculls, who were narrowly beaten to the gold by the Chinese. Louis Smith a 19 year old gymnast won a bronze medal in the Men's Pommel Horse and is the 1st British gymnast ever to win an individual Olympic medal - he only took up Pommel Horse gymnastics as a punishment for being a naughty boy at school!

Mara Yamauchi came a well earned 6th in the Marathon, but sadly Paula Radcliffe, who has been plagued by injury, finished 23rd but did compleete the course. Our other Bedford runner, Liz Yelling had a bad fall but managed to finish and came 26th.
Victoria Pendleton, our Bedfordshire triple World Cycling Champion broke the Olympic record in her heats and should win a medal in the Women's Sprint Finals on Tuesday.

These Olympic results are amazing. Britain has a population of only 60 million compared to China's 1.6 billion and we should all be very proud of the unprecedented successes achieved by the British Team, especially the brilliant cycling team

How different these modest young Olympic stars are from our pampered, overpaid and self centred professional footballers!
