ELSTOW MAY FAIR BENCH

Elstow May Fair is held annually on Elstow Green, bordered by our lovely 16th Century Moot Hall, 11th Century Elstow Abbey and the John Bunyan sign. We elect a May Queen and have Maypole Dancing, a tradition which goes back centuries to John Bunyan's time.

I had a smart new wooden Elstow May Fair Bench installed on Elstow Green on the day of the Elstow May Fair to provide seating for local residents and for social events on the Green. The new bench has proved very popular and is well used.

My Bedford Borough Council Ward Improvement Fund was used to buy this bench and two galvanised steel picnic benches for the Elstow Playing Field children's play area. Also I paid for a special plaque commemorating our Elstow May Fair, the major annual social event in Elstow which is organised by the Friends of Elstow Abbey.
